Derek Ballantyne has over twenty years of experience in the housing, real estate management and development business, with a particular focus on affordable housing. He has extensive experience in complex public and private project environments, a comprehensive knowledge of the financial management and investment management business, as well as a deep understanding of the social housing sector. He has successfully managed and implemented a social housing investment program, and participated in the oversight of investment funds in the not-for-profit sector.
Derek has worked in a senior executive capacity with Build Toronto, Toronto Housing Company, Ottawa City Living. He is currently retained as a partner with New Market Funds, and in this capacity has oversight of the Community Forward Fund. Derek is currently Principal of DKGI Inc., a small housing and finance consultancy, and is Chair of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Board.
Chief Compliance Officer; Chief Operating Officer
Janice started with the organization in January 2010 as its Chief Compliance and Operating Officer, bringing a wealth of experience in municipal and private finance. Prior to joining Encasa, Janice was the Senior Treasury and Portfolio Manager for the Region of Peel.
Janice graduated on the Dean’s Honour Roll at the University of Waterloo, and has accumulated 35 years of experience in the investment industry. Janice earned her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1991.
Manager, Client Services
John brings more than 20 years of experience in non-profit housing to Encasa, including 5 years managing a Toronto-based, 20-unit non-profit housing provider. Most of John’s career has been spent in customer service-related positions, including roles in the hospitality industry and retail. He worked for Housing Services Corporation from 2006 to 2012.
Director, Governance and Strategic Planning
In addition to her role as Director, Governance and Strategic Planning, Glenda McLachlan is also Encasa’s Corporate Secretary. Glenda brings to Encasa a broad spectrum of professional experience in governance, organizational development, policy & program development, marketing & communications, and corporate administration developed in the private, public and not for profit sectors. Glenda’s professional association with social housing and the investment industry began in 1999. Prior to that time, Glenda worked with a number of organizations in the fields of environment, native affairs, natural resources, intergovernmental affairs, transportation, management consulting, executive search, and consumer research.
Glenda holds an Honours BSc. from the University of Waterloo.
Director of Finance
Amy joined Encasa in February 2018. With over 25 years of experience in financial analysis and capital markets, she has specialized in building financial management frameworks for enterprises undergoing rapid growth and transformational change. Previously, Amy worked as director of finance at Evergreen for the planning, construction and start-up of Evergreen Brick Works, as Director of Investments at Social Capital Partners, and in investment banking.
Amy has an MBA in Finance and Accounting from The Wharton School, as well as an MA in Economics from the University of Toronto.
