The Social Housing Investment Program offers housing providers three mutual funds tailored to their needs and situation:

Social Housing Canadian Short-Term Bond FundHigh quality bonds of Canadian governments and corporations that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner. Average term to maturity is between one to five years.

This fund is for investors who:
- are seeking higher levels of current interest income compares to money market fund investments
- have a low tolerance for risk
- wish to invest primarily in securities of companies that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner

What Does the Fund Invest In?
The fund invests primarily in high-quality short-term debt obligations issued or guaranteed by the Canadian Government, financial institutions, and Canadian corporations. The fund also invests in debt instruments issued or guaranteed by international or supranational agencies, and other foreign issuers.

The maximum exposure to investments in foreign markets is 30%.
Social Housing Canadian Bond FundHigh quality bonds of Canadian governments and corporations that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner. Average term to maturity is five to twelve years.

This fund is for investors who:
- are seeking higher levels of current interest income compared to money market fund investments
- have a low tolerance for risk
- wish to invest primarily in securities of companies that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner

This fund is not for those looking for capital growth.

What Does This Fund Invest In?
The fund are invests primarily in bonds of Canadian governments and companies not maturing for at least one year andwith a credit rating not lower than BBB. The fund also invests in debt instruments issued or guaranteed by international orsupranational agencies, and other foreign issuers.

The maximum exposure to investments in foreign markets is 30%.
Social Housing Canadian Equity FundCommon shares of Canadian and foreign companies that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner. Maximum of 40% may be invested in non-Canadian securities.

This fund is for investors who:
- are seeking exposure to investments in quality, primarily Canadian, growth companies
- have a medium tolerance for risk
- wish to invest primarily in securities of companies that conduct themselves in a socially responsible manner

What Does the Fund Invest In?
The fund invest primarily in common shares, and may also buy securities convertible into common shares and may use derivatives. The fund may invest a portion of its assets in non-Canadian securities. As of the date of this Fund Facts, the fund does not expect to invest more than 40% of its assets in non-Canadian securities.

The funds are managed by respected Canadian financial advisers RBC Global Asset Management, an operating division of RBC GAM. Investments in the short-term bond, bond, and equity funds are submitted to an ethical screening process. Companies involved with alcohol, tobacco, and military weaponry are avoided, while those with a strong environmental and labour background are preferred.

Program Requirements

Ontario’s Housing Services Act, 2011 requires that legally prescribed non-profits and co-ops in Ontario invest their capital reserve funds through the Social Housing Investment Program. For details, please refer to the act and related regulations.
